About Carbon Minds
Carbon Minds is a data analytics company and life-cycle data provider. We use our proprietary digital model of the global chemicals and plastics industry to offer clients unprecedented transparency on environmental impacts in global supply chains. Our platform creates unique opportunities for data analysis, supply chain optimization, and machine learning applications.
We are a growth-stage startup collaborating with major industrial players, universities, and regulatory stakeholders. Our work culture is open, collaborative, and purpose-driven—united by our mission to make global supply chains more sustainable.
Role Summary
You will take ownership of all industrial inputs and services that are critical to the chemical value chain, but outside the chemical conversion itself. This includes sectors such as energy generation, mining, metallurgy, construction materials, and waste treatment.
Your work will directly feed into product carbon footprints (PCFs), LCA databases, and decision-support tools used by global players in the chemical industry. You will define data structures, oversee modeling approaches, and ensure that upstream environmental data is robust, scalable, and in line with current LCA and regulatory standards.
- Build and maintain LCI / PCF data for non-chemical supply systems such as:
- Electricity and heat generation (regionally resolved)
- Fuels (gas, coal, biomass, hydrogen)
- Cement and construction materials
- Metals and mining (e.g., steel, aluminum)
- Water, waste, and recycling systems
- Logistics
- Structure and manage databases that integrate these sectors into the core chemical LCI model.
- Define system boundaries, functional units, and allocation rules aligned with LCA standards (ISO 14040/44, ILCD, EF3.1, PEFCRs).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, software engineers, and LCA experts to automate updates, improve data pipelines, and support client projects.
- Contribute to publications, white papers, or internal guidelines documenting methodology and data development practices.
Education
- Master or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Mining & Metallurgy, or a related field
Experience
- 5+ years experience in LCA or sustainability data modeling
- Familiarity with electricity systems, metals, or industrial supply chains
- Solid understanding of LCA databases
- Experience working with Python, or LCA software tools
- Knowledge of LCA methodologies and framworks (ISO 14040/44, ILCD, EF3.1, PEFCRs)
Skills
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to methodological detail
- Ability to translate complex industrial systems into structured data
- Excellent communication skills in English (German a plus)
- Self-driven, curious, and ready to work in a fast-paced start-up environment
- A high-impact role in a growing and mission-driven company
- Flexible working hours and hybrid home/office setup
- A fast learning curve with cross-functional collaboration
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Opportunity for long-term growth and leadership development
- A role that contributes directly to global climate action
