The Lab Scientist R&D Gene Therapy (m/f/d) is responsible to generate ideas and to drive hands-on innovation in a team of other scientists and technicians.

This position reports to the Head of Synthetic Virology and Cell Engineering and is part of the Technology Development Department located in Cologne, Germany; it is a fix-termed position opened for 2 years and will be an on-site role.

  • Gather information from literature research and own prior experience, as well as internal experts and brainstorming sessions in order to ideate, Independently design, conduct and analyze wet lab experiments.
  • Communicate results in order to create and advise on innovative experiments of others. Willingness to dive into cutting edge technologies in cell and molecular biology.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate activities across departments of the organization.

  • PhD in molecular biology, cellular biology, virology or similar field. A background in cell and gene Therapy is a strong plus.
  • Experience with (6 out of 7): qPCR, ELISA, cell culture, molecular cloning, Western blot, virus production and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Basic statistics skills, as well as experience working with NGS datasets are a plus.
  • Communication skills, both in writing and speaking. The ability to convey ideas clearly and to describe complex scientific processes to team members as well as external stakeholders is necessary (C1 in English, and B2 in German).
  • Experience in coordinating work packages in peer-to-peer settings as well as across teams with various scientific backgrounds (project management).

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

    Finding the balance between fearlessly stepping into the scientific unknown vs. rigorous experimental design, strategy, documentation and staying on track.
