The roughly 2.600 employees assigned to the Terminal & Infrastructure segment deal with terminal-related activities and provide complementary logistics services at selected locations.


The Hull & Machinery / Casualty Management team is responsible for the processing and settlement of hull & machinery and collision liability claims for Hapag-Lloyd AG and its subsidiaries.

This includes the following tasks in particular:

  • Gathering information and processing the documentation of ship-related claims, in particular claims related to stevedore damages
  • Assessment of the factual and legal situation with the involvement of other departments, experts, insurers and lawyers
  • Collaborating with colleagues in other involved departments in insurance-related tasks
  • Conducting settlement negotiations and handling recourses against third parties and, in individual cases, assisting with the preparation of litigations in collaboration with lawyers
  • Monitoring and analyzing risk situations and risk developments regarding loss prevention
  • Settlement with insurers
  • File management and maintenance of statistical data and reserves in the IT system

  • Successfully completed training in one of the following areas: shipping, insurance or nautical/ship technology
  • Interest in different approaches to the assessment of ship damage (commercial, nautical, insurance perspective)
  • Argumentation experience and negotiation skills
  • Good communication and cooperation skills, reliable team player
  • Ability to organize yourself and work in a structured manner
  • Good IT skills and enjoy working with specialist software
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
