We are the Otto Group data.works: we develop solutions for the Otto Group companies and rely on machine learning applications in classic fields such as regression or classification and on new technologies such as generative AI. We support the entire product life cycle: from the development phase with a lot of research into how new technologies can be used, to the operation of the finished product. We develop chatbots, product list sorting, sales forecasting models and much more!

Many people talk about "home office" - we talk about "mobile work": our teams decide for themselves what balance of mobile working and on-site presence makes sense for them. We would be happy to meet you in the office 1-2 times a week on average, but this is not a must.
- Support us in a data science project and deal with topics such as intent discovery or entity recognition, which are of great importance for our product.
- Test different methods for implementation, from classic ML approaches to LLMs or hybrid models, and contribute your suggestions.
- Plan and organize your day-to-day work while staying in close contact with your mentor who will provide support and guidance.
- Document your work and present the results to gain valuable insights for our company.
- Gain a deep insight into the practical applications of data science within the Otto Group and put your theoretical knowledge into practice.
- You have the opportunity to write your Master's thesis in cooperation with us.

Must-have:
- You are a registered student in a degree program with a focus on data science, (business) computer science, mathematics or a comparable field of study related to data science and can support us for at least 6 months for about 18 hours a week.
- Good programming skills in Python
- Knowledge in the areas of machine learning and neural networks
- Language level: German B1 (advanced language use) and English B2 (independent language use)
Nice-to-have:
- First experience with LLMs and NLP
- Practical experience with machine learning, data analysis or visualization packages
