Job Description
Our successful candidate will support and foster the daily presence of the British Government in Germany. As part of the HR Team the HR Officer will support the HR Manager by providing a professional HR service across the British diplomatic missions in Germany in line with German labour law, best practice and central policy.
This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week.
- Support the HR Manager with various tasks;
- On- and Offboarding of country based staff and diplomats;
- Communication with the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) to help UK diplomats get accredited;
- Support recruitment, actively advertising vacant positions on various platforms;
- General HR administration, such as issuing employment contracts, contractual amendments, references, confirmations, monitoring on- and offboarding lists, etc;
- Liaise with the Community Liaison Officers to ensure post reports are regularly reviewed and updated;
- Process HR invoices;
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Embassy, including crisis work.
Other tasks:
- Corporate projects focussed on supporting and developing the collective spirit of the Embassy and the Consulate-Generals in Germany;
- Other duties which may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of the job.
- Proficiency in German and English (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Recent work experience of at least 2 years within a similar role;
- Professional experience in customer service oriented role;
- Excellent communication skills and customer focus;
- Ability to deliver high quality work within deadlines and at times under pressure;
- Good communication skills and strong customer focus;
- Problem solving skills;
- Ability to work independently, but also with colleagues and contacts in the immediate and wider teams as appropriate;
- Good IT skills, especially standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Nice to have:
- Some knowledge of German labour law and social insurance regulations;
- Experience of working in an international environment;
- Some knowledge of UK national insurance regulations desirable;
- Experience of working with Oracle databases.
- € 51,564.- rising to a maximum of approx. € 57,922.- gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable).
- The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
- Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.
