We are 50Hertz – one of the four transmission system operators (TSO) in Germany. Together with the Belgian electricity grid operator Elia (Brussels), we form the internationally active Elia Group. At 50Hertz, over 2,100 employees ensure that electricity flows over long distances reliably, with minimal loss, and optimally managed. As a TSO, we play a central role in the implementation of the energy transition from a technical and economic perspective, acting as a facilitator. Our goal is to integrate 100 percent renewable energy into the grid and system securely and affordably by 2032.

Located in the Open Source Program Office (OSPO), the Open Source Manager drives the strategic use of Open Source Software (OSS) and Inner Source methods. The aim is to enable employees (especially application, data, and software teams) throughout the company to benefit from open source and to manage general licensing issues. In this role, I will act as contact person and “trusted advisor” for the teams.
My responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the creation and continuous refinement of our Open Source and Inner Source strategies and policies,
- Provide expert advice on Open Source license compliance topics and assist teams in resolving licensing issues,
- Support development teams in setting up and utilizing our software composition analysis tool (FOSSA),
- Track, summarize and present the overall state of open source licenses with regard to compliance,
- Engage with internal stakeholders (legal, IT security, product owners etc.) regarding the use of and contribution to Open Source projects,
- Promote awareness and understanding of open source and inner source practices within the organization.
- Completed studies in the field of (business) informatics, economics, business administration, (industrial) engineering combined with proven experience in open source software, either as a „contributor“, „maintainer“, or „advocate“,
- Experience in setting up and leading Open Source programs in companies with various levels of complexity,
- Strong understanding of Open Source licensing, compliance, and governance practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams,
- Familiarity with Open Source development tools and platforms (e.g., GitHub, GitLab),
- Ability to analyze risks and benefits in the context of business and legal constraints,
- Good German (B2) and English (B2) communication skills.
