The British Government in Germany is based at the British Embassy in Berlin and our Consulates in Dusseldorf and Munich. Currently, we are recruiting an IT and Corporate Services Support Officer for the British Consulate-General in Dusseldorf.

We are looking for a dynamic and adaptable team player with excellent customer services skills and a can-do attitude to join the Corporate Services Team. Your role will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Consulate and Consul-General's residence, providing a platform for colleagues to complete their work. This following job description is for a part-time position.

Main purpose of job:

You will be responsible for the upkeep of the office IT inventory and will play an important role as the local point of contact for all IT and telephony-related matters. An interest in and basic understanding of office-based IT systems and hardware is essential for the role. You will report IT issues to the central IT Helpdesk and resolve issues with their remote assistance. Specialist IT knowledge is not required for the role.

You will also be expected to work seamlessly with the Corporate Services team in Dusseldorf and the wider network in Germany, providing support with admin tasks as needed. Excellent time management and prioritisation skills are required in this role.

There will be occasional opportunities to travel for training and to meet with Germany network colleagues based at the British Embassy Berlin and the Consulate-General Munich, with whom you will work closely.

  • Main oversight of local IT and telephony systems, video conferencing and other office IT.
  • Maintain the local IT inventory.
  • Proactively report any incidents and performance issues to the central IT Helpdesk.
  • Provide first advice to users while working closely with the central IT helpdesk and your counterparts in Berlin and Munich.
  • Postal services: handling of daily incoming mail and sending/receiving diplomatic mail.
  • Crisis role: Active participation in crisis planning and prevention and participation in exercises with the wider network.
  • Corporate: participate in projects focussed on supporting and developing the collective spirit of the Consulate-General and wider Germany network.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of the job.

  • Proficient German and English language skills (written and spoken, minimum required C1 under the CEFRL or equivalent);
  • Recent experience in IT-related role.
  • Experience in customer - facing role.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially with standard Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Working knowledge of basic office-based IT systems and hardware.
  • High standard of self-organisation, attention to detail and delivery.
  • Ability to both work independently as well as being part of a wider team;
  • Work well under pressure, skilled at prioritisation of multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Knowledge of IT networking solutions and local network providers

This is a part time, fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary €25,782.- rising to a maximum of approx. €28,960.92 gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable).

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.

This is in addition to the induction programme offered to all staff and familiarisation visits to other posts in the network. Further training provided for IT, Finance, Health & Safety and Security elements of the position.

Resources managed:

Overall daily management of all IT and telecommunications assets. Accounting for local budget cash box and shared responsibility for Health and Safety and security matters at post, working closely with the Office Manager and Consul-General.
