To effectively meet the challenge of protecting the world's forests, we are committed to have the world's most skilled people working with us. We are currently looking for an engaged Legal Counsel Corporate & Compliance (f-m-d) to join our Legal Department.
The energetic and eager team of the Legal Department supports all legal and compliance aspects of
the FSC Group and advises FSC's management and its specialized departments in their daily business
affairs. The overall scope covers a variety of law fields, including contract and commercial, data
protection, donation, private international, labor, anti-trust and competition, intellectual property,
corporate and tax, IT, tenancy, insurance, public and environmental law.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
You are a generalist with special interest in corporate, labor, contract and commercial law as well as
compliance with an international orientation. You are able to support in a variety of legal matters in
close cooperation with the other legal team members and with a direct reporting line to the Senior
Legal Counsel operating under the FSC Group Head of the Legal Department. You are confident to
cooperate with different stakeholders to reach practical and service-oriented solutions.
The responsibilities and tasks as Legal Counsel include:
- Support to existing and development of new legal compliance programs, e.g., in light of corporate, tax, labor, antitrust, data protection and other regulatory compliance applicable to an international NGO.
- Ensuring that Compliance requirements are properly understood by all departments of the FSC Group including the wider global network by way of regular training, the coordination and dissemination of relevant regulatory notifications and assisting with the meaningful translation of requirements into business procedures.
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and co-approving a variety of contracts for the FSC Group.
- Supporting the prosecution false claims cases conducted by certificate holders as well as support in dispute resolution cases in close cooperation with the System Integrity Unit at FSC.
- Supporting regular reviews of FSC's organizational model and close support to FSC's subsidiaries as well as being a supporting counsel for building up new legal and foreign entities.
- Supporting counsel on labor law related topics in close cooperation with FSC's HR Department. · Coordination with the Head of Legal and other Departments, e.g., Finance, on the management of the insurance portfolio.
- Preparation of legal assessment reports and carrying out research activities.
- Substitution of other members in the Legal Department.
- Individual projects support as assigned.
- University degree in law. For lawyers educated in Germany: Second State Examination.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional experience as practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house counsel in a legal department of an international organization.
- Experience in dealing with authorities, clients, courts and law firms.
- Fluency in English and German (spoken and written) is required due to being the daily working language a FSC's Legal Department. Spanish and/or French is a strong advantage.
- Quick cognitive ability and good time management skills: ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several functions.
- Service-oriented attitude to work focusing on solving legal challenges with a strong sense for diligence and accuracy but also pragmatism.
- Proven ability to plan and organize work proactively. Experience in project management is a big plus.
- Good skills in the use of the standard software packages, in particular MS Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Dynamics 365, MS SharePoint, MS Vision and MS Project is helpful.
- Experience with contract databases such as DocuSign CLM and other knowledge management platforms is an important asset.
- Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary and multi-lingual team.
