GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. We are looking for the following person for the IT department as soon as possible:
Research Assistant (all genders) as member of the Data-Storage Group

- Design and implement standardized APIs and interfaces, collaborating with researchers to seamlessly integrate external applications with our data storage infrastructure
- Create flexible, scalable interfaces that automate data collection from diverse sources and formats, ensuring compatibility with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles
- Build and deploy a centralized metadata management system to systematically capture and document experimental data provenance
- Engineer automated quality assurance tools that validate incoming data, monitor quality metrics, and generate comprehensive deviation reports
- Design and implement proactive security monitoring systems to identify and remediate potential vulnerabilities
- Maintain and optimize data storage connections following industry security best practices and standards
- Share technical innovations and research findings at prestigious national and international conferences
- Publish open-source software solutions and research contributions on relevant scientific repositories.
- Successfully completed university degree (Master's, Diploma) in Computer Science, Physics, or a comparable field of study
- Expert knowledge in data storage technologies and systems (Lustre, Ceph, etc.)
- Knowledge in developing and implementing storage strategies and solutions
- Ability to analyze data and create reports for monitoring the performance of data storage systems
- Experience in handling security and data protection requirements related to data storage
- Good German and English skills, both written and oral.
The role combines strong software engineering expertise with scientific computing, offering the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to research infrastructure while working with cutting-edge technologies.
Your working style is structured and independent. The use of documentation tools during your work is an efficient support for you. You have strong communication skills, a confident manner, as well as a high level of methodological and social competence; you are ready to acquire missing knowledge independently. The ability to work in a team across groups and a solution-oriented working style are required.

The position is permanent. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD (Bund) applicable at GSI. Home office is partly possible by mutual agreement.
