Ornua is a dairy co-operative which sells dairy products on behalf of its members, Ireland's dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. It is Ireland's largest exporter of Irish dairy products, exporting to 110 countries worldwide. Ornua Deutschland GmbH, based in Neukirchen-Vluyn, northwest of Dusseldorf, and known for its Kerrygold brand, is a subsidiary of the Irish Ornua Cooperative Limited in Dublin. The role has overall responsibility for the Finance function and the holder will be a member of the Ornua Germany Senior Management team and the Ornua Global Foods Finance team.

The role will have a strong commercial and strategic element and the Finance Director will be expected to play an influential role in the development of strategies for profitable business growth.

The role holder will ensure that all management and statutory reporting is accurate and completed in accordance with agreed timelines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide strong financial leadership as part of the senior management team with a focus on ensuring profitable growth for the business

  • Ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including appropriate analysis

  • Develop pricing strategies in conjunction with the commercial team and support in customer negotiations

  • Management of forecasting and budgeting process with a particular focus on margin growth, trade term controlling, expenditure monitoring, balance sheet and cash flow development

  • Developing the business case for Capex and Brand investment and ensuring appropriate controls on expenditure and appraisal of benefits post-investment

  • Ongoing monitoring and forecasting of cash flow and working capital

  • Ownership of the engagement with internal and external auditors including year end audit

  • Preparation of tax returns, adherence to tax deadlines and review of tax assessment notices

  • Leadership of the local accounting & controlling team, including monitoring and reviewing of performance. Ensuring career and skills development for team members.

  • Ongoing development of processes within the finance function to optimise efficiency and to create a strong control environment

  • Contact person for all insurance issues, also in cooperation with the insurance broker


  • University Degree with an emphasis on Finance/ Controlling and profound experience in leading a Finance function incl. Accounting, Tax and Controlling

  • Fluent in German & English language

  • Ability to lead and drive change

  • Good team player with strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills

  • Strong relationship builder at all levels in the business

  • Commercially astute with strong analytical skills

  • Highly motivated and dynamic

  • Willingness to travel to Ornua locations in different countries as required

  • Dairy or Food industry experience within a large FMCG brand would be desirable but not essential
