The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) as an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (registered association) is one of the leading centers for fusion research and is engaged in developing the physical foundations for a future fusion power plant. The institute is affiliated to the European Fusion Programme.
The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching offers an opportunity to participate in a postdoctorate program within the division Physics of the Plasma Edge (E2) to perform research activities at the ASDEX Upgrade fusion experiment (AUG). We are looking for a
PhD Experimental Physicist (m/f/div) – Microwave Diagnostics in High-Temperature Plasma Research
- Conduct research on plasma dynamics in a fusion experiment
- Operation and further development of microwave technology and its data acquisition to probe the electron temperature in a fusion plasma based on the electron cyclotron emission
- Develop and maintain suitable control software for communication and setup of the electron cyclotron emission diagnostics
- Explore applications for real-time control of temperature profiles
- PhD in experimental physics
- Knowledge of plasma physics (preferable high-temperature plasmas)
- Experience and knowledge of electronics and microwave technology

- Experience in programming of application software in Python and C
- Ability to present complex scientific and technical content in English

The position is limited to a duration of two years. The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 13 according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund).
