The Surveyor, Vendor is responsible for examining and reporting certification of materials and/or fabrication of components relative to compliance with the applicable requirements of the ABS Rules. This may be an intermediate level position for an individual under the supervision and guidance of experienced field surveyors.
- Visits manufacturers and/or fabricators for routine surveys to carry out material certification and witness fabrication of components.
- Performs work that involves conventional surveying practices but may include moderately complex problem resolution and coordination of activities among other disciplines.
- Prepares technically accurate and timely survey reports and responses to correspondences and communication platforms.
- Begins to work directly with clients to identify and resolve problems in area of technical expertise.
- Maintains files in an orderly and up-to-date manner.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Principal, Senior, or Surveyor-in-Charge of the assigned port, or a higher-level position.
Education and Experience
- A degree or equivalent from an institution recognized within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (i.e., a degree or equivalent -- a minimum two-year program, depending on local education system), or
- Quality control and project management experience.
- Proficiency in the English language commensurate with their future work.
- Five (5) years of experience minimum.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read engineering plans.
- Ability to perform surveys in the prescribed format.
- Must have a working knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
- General knowledge of materials and engineering systems and machinery.
- Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
- Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
- Responsiveness to customers.
- Ability to work well with others.
