Bioinformatician (m/f/d)
The position is full-time (38,5 h/week) and for a period of two years (31.12.2026) due the project with the possibility of an extension. The position can be filled at the earliest possible date.
The Core Unit for Bioinformatics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn provides quantitative and computational analyses, training and consultation. It supports research groups at the Bonn site and provides services within the framework of genetic diagnostics at the Institute of Human Genetics. CUBA benefits from a shared computing infrastructure and exchange of expertise due to its embedding and collaboration with the Institute for Medical Biometry, Informatics und Epidemiology (IMBIE), the Institute for Genomic Statistics and Bioinformatics (IGSB), the Institute for Human Genetics and the HPC/A-LAB of the University Bonn.
- Analysing and processing of high-volume data, such as Next Generation Sequencing data (NGS) like Whole Genome or Exome Sequencing data (WGS, WES) and reporting of results
- Design, development, maintenance and execution of workflows and tools for analysis and quality control
- Working in a motivated team of colleagues from bioinformatics, physics, etc.
- Developing and provisioning of computational infrastructure (tools, databases)
- Training, consultancy and documentation
- Master's degree or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science or any related field
- Strong expertise in the analysis of NGS data such as germline or somatic variant calling
- Expertise in programming, e.g. with Python or R/Bioconductor; optionally Django, JavaScript and ReactJSX
- Experience with HPC, Slurm, Linux command line, cloud environments and containers
- Basic admin and DevOps skills, e.g. set-up of services like CI with GitLab, OpenStack, Rundeck and OpenProject
- Knowledge of genetics and biology is considered a plus
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in English is highly valued, knowledge of German is considered a plus
- The salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L (EG 13)
