Jobbeschreibung

Octapharma Biopharmaceuticals GmbH a subsidiary of the Octapharma group founded in 1997 is a successful and expanding biotech company in Heidelberg. Our core business is the development of recombinant proteins produced in human cell lines for therapeutic use in humans. We strive for effective treatments with an improved tolerability and convenience for our patients.

We are looking for a Research Associate (m/f/d) with strong skills in protein biochemistry to join our R&D Analytics group at our site in Heidelberg. As a member of a young, highly motivated team of biologists and biotechnologists, you will support the development of new, protein-based drugs from early identification to late development phases.

Our core business is the biochemical in vitro characterization of a variety of innovative, recombinantly expressed, therapeutic protein products. As part of this, the R&D Analytics group is involved in e.g. the quantification of a broad spectrum of biomolecules. Among others, ELISA-based methods, other quantitative immunoassays (e.g. Octet, GyroLabs) as well as quantitative enzyme activity tests (e.g. coagulation assays) are applied. The team supports a network of research groups in the identification and characterization of new drug candidates (e.g. by binding affinity evaluation) in the fields of hematology and immunology. For this purpose, routine analyses are performed, and new analytical methods are developed and automated. Interdisciplinary interactions with other R&D and GMP groups are a matter of course for us.

We are looking to recruit at the next possible date at our site in Heidelberg.

  • Conducting routine analysis, e.g. in the field of biological activities, coagulation assays (e.g. FVIII:C, FIXa, thrombin generation assay), ELISA and other quantitative immunoassays, SDS-PAGE, Western blot (various target proteins), isoelectric focusing
  • Carrying out and evaluating development experiments as part of the establishment of new analytical measurement methods under the supervision of experienced scientists
  • Independent preparation of electronic laboratory reports and maintenance of electronic data management systems
  • Support in the implementation of methods on automated high-throughput platforms (TECAN robotics platform)
  • Assistance with general laboratory organization, e.g. ordering materials and taking responsibility for equipment maintenance
  • You will familiarize yourself with an extensive range of analytical equipment, e.g. Siemens BCS system, Ceveron T100, MSD Sector S600, Octet HTX, Maurice icIEF, GyroLabs Xplore, Absorbance/Fluorescence/Luminescence plate readers

  • You have an open-minded and proactive personality. Team spirit and broad-minded co-operation are important to you. You enjoy multitasking and are skilled with a high degree of flexibility.
  • Preferably you have successfully completed vocational training with a biotechnological/pharmaceutical focus (MTA, BTA, CTA, PTA, Biologielaborant) with at least 3 years of relevant working experience or hold a Master's degree.
  • You have experience in analytical method development in the field of advanced analysis of protein-based biomolecules (e.g. activity of coagulation factors, characterization of immunoglobulins like e.g. binding kinetics) and a general understanding of process and product impurities (e.g. HCP, HMWS, PTM variants).
  • Hands-on experience with basic analytical methods such as protein quantification (BCA, Lowry), SDS-PAGE, Western Blot and immunoassays (e.g. ELISA) or other multi-well-based methods is essential for the position.
  • You understand underlying method principles and are confident to apply that knowledge for troubleshooting and assay improvement.
  • Experience in handling automated high-throughput platforms is a plus.
  • Open and friendly communication skills as well as flexibility and a structured way of working are required in a dynamically developing project environment.

  • A permanent position in full-time (40 hrs./week) in a constantly growing company
  • A modern, "state of the art" working environment
  • Flexible working hours
  • Regular opportunities for further training
  • 30 days vacation
