We seek to fill the position of

Director Fundraising (gn)

full-time ( 40 h/week), to start as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hertie School's leadership to enhance fundraising efforts and contribute to the long-term success of our mission.


Leadership and strategic management

  • Build up and lead fundraising team at the Hertie School with potentially up to five colleagues
  • Develop and execute successfully an innovative and sustainable fundraising strategy for the Hertie School catering to its different needs (scholarships, professorships, events, facilities) and incorporating diverse donation channels (individual donations, corporate giving, donor and crowdfunding platforms, endowments etc.).
  • Design, lead and execute fundraising campaigns, integrating digital and non-digital elements for maximum impact.
  • Build, maintain and flourish network of funders/donors
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholder groups and represent the Hertie School externally for fundraising matters

Project management and communication

  • Drive donor engagement, retention, and growth, actively develop a portfolio of strategic partners
  • Coordinate and manage fundraising projects, working closely with the Hertie School Leadership
  • Coordinate reporting with funding partners
  • Communicate with partners and funders

Proposal writing

  • Lead prospect research on potential funders/donors
  • Develop fundraising proposals (funded professorships, stipends, outreach formats etc.), including methodology and activities, associated work packages and budgets,
  • Coordinate and closely work with stakeholders in-house (Centres, Professors, Accounting, HR, Legal)
  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, review and approval, and coordinating requirements with contributors
  • Oversee all compliance, contract-related issues, and overall funding requirements

Budgeting

  • Technical, financial and contractual conceptualization, planning and implementation of fundraising projects

  • A university degree, preferably in the social sciences, business or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising
  • Proven success in conceiving, leading and executing fundraising campaigns
  • Experience developing and supporting public-facing partnerships, and a track record of engaging support from public figures and corporations.
  • Strong hands-on partnership development skills, with a track record of engaging public figures and corporations.
  • Experience in the philanthropic sector is a plus
  • Knowledge of and interest in the research topics covered by the Hertie School
  • Profound experience in marketing and/or sales, as well as business development
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, communication and presentation skills
  • Motivating and inclusive management style
  • Great flexibility and focus on results and quality, analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication in German (native) and English – with a talent for storytelling.
