As an Engineering Manager (f/m/d), you will lead one or two backend engineering teams, each consisting of 4-5 engineers. These teams play a crucial role by focusing on backend systems that power the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to warehouse integration, while also optimizing seamless and efficient after-sales processes, driving the overall success of the business.

You will bring both technical experience and leadership skills, supporting your team in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment. The role is split into people management and technical leadership, ensuring that your team operates efficiently, makes appropriate technical decisions, and continuously develops.

In close collaboration with Michael (Head of Engineering), you will ensure that your teams are aligned with the company's technical vision, driving innovation and maintaining high standards of operational excellence. Your primary focus will be leading and developing your teams, cultivating a positive and productive work culture, and ensuring the successful onboarding and continuous professional growth of your team members.

Your mission

  • Team Leadership and Development: Foster a positive, collaborative, and learning-oriented culture within your team. Provide both technical and personal support to your team members through regular 1:1 coaching, career development, and mentoring.
  • Onboarding and Growth: Manage the onboarding of new team members, ensuring their smooth integration into the team. Collaborate with the Head of Engineering and HR to support the long-term development of your team members.
  • Technical Leadership and Innovation: Lead technical decisions in collaboration with your team and support technical planning. You will ensure that the solution is scalable and secure with maintainability using technologies like AWS and the use of different third-party systems. Your excellent experience with backend technologies (such as PHP), integrations, web services, and software architecture will drive technical excellence and innovation.
  • Performance Management: Our teams are committed to operational efficiency and innovation. You will set clear goals and KPIs, monitor progress using data-driven metrics, provide constructive feedback, and recognize exceptional performance.
  • Dynamic Environment and Adaptability: In a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, you will adapt team priorities and structures as needed, ensuring your team remains agile and ready for new challenges. You will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment and work closely with Product Owner and colleagues across different teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other team such as Cloud, Security, QA, as well as Product and Project Management, to ensure technical solutions align with company goals and meet high-quality standards.

Your experience & skills

  • Leadership Experience: You have at least 3 years of experience as a leader in an engineering environment, ideally with experience managing one or more teams. Coaching and the development of engineers is essential.
  • Technical Expertise: You have hands-on experience in software development and strong leadership experience in managing backend-focused teams. Experience with backend technologies such as PHP, as well as integrations, software architecture and web services is highly valued. Familiarity with Composable Commerce architecture and cloud technologies is a strong advantage.
  • Agile Methodologies: You are experienced in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and are able to apply them for the most effective processes within a team.
  • Communication Skills: You have good organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; can effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential for smooth communication in an international environment. German is helpful but not mandatory.
