Job Summary:
The Field Service Engineer will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance
(including installation and training) on Teledyne FLIR chemical, biological, radiation, and explosive detection instruments in house and/or at customer sites. The location of this Teledyne FLIR position is Frankfurt, Germany.


  • Become knowledgeable of Teledyne FLIR gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS), biological, radiation and explosive detection products and services.
  • Perform installation of Teledyne FLIR hardware and software in the field.
  • Provide training on the use of product hardware and software both in house and in the field.
  • Troubleshoot and repair GC/MS, biological, radiation and explosive detection instruments, both in house and in the field.
  • Manage and resolve customer, and distributor concerns in a professional, pleasant, and responsive manner.
  • Document appropriate questions, techniques, and solutions in the product knowledge base (JIRA program or formal documentation)
  • Travel is expected to be at 25%.
  • Participate in ongoing internal training programs.

  • Preferred Background, Knowledge Base and Competencies:
    • Education/university degree in the field of chemistry/chemical engineering, biotechnology, electrical engineering, physical engineering, or a related field with a close connection to analytical chemistry.
    • A successfully completed degree in natural sciences or training as an engineer (FH) or technician with a practical focus on instrumental analysis GC / GC-MS and radiation detection instruments.
    • Interest in instrumental analysis, desirable with practical experience in GC/GCMS and LC/LCMS.
  • Experience required in the assembly and/or repair of:
    • Good knowledge of electronics (analytics/electrical engineering), vacuum technology and mechanics.
    • Solid IT knowledge including simple programming and PC/network configuration.
    • Printed circuit boards from engineering drawings.
    • Cable assemblies and harnesses from engineering drawings.
    • Complex electro-mechanical instruments.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with team members and customers.
  • Must be able to travel to the United States for a period of 60-days to receive necessary training, on the proper servicing of chemical, biological, radiation and explosive detection instruments.
  • Must be able to communicate in the English language.
