The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is an international research institute in the field of medical genome research. It employs around 350 people. Its research focus is on investigating the function and regulation of the genome during embryonic development and in the development of diseases.

We are looking for a full-time position (or part-time, minimum approximately 30 hours per week) for our institute at the earliest possible date:

Assistant / Foreign Language Assistant (f/m/div) (payment up to pay grade 9a TVöD Bund)

The position is initially limited to one year, but can be extended if necessary.

The assistant is expected to perform administrative tasks for the largely international group leaders and employees in our institute. The assistant is an important interface between these group leaders and the institute's administration and will be part of our Research Coordination team.


  • You are responsible for important tasks for various research groups in the administrative day-to-day business, such as recruitment of new hires and the organization of scientific events
  • You support the scientific group leaders in administrative tasks and with the organization and coordination of research activities
  • You plan and book business trips and prepare the travel expense reports with the group leaders and employees
  • You look after and support international employees and guests of the institute in official matters
  • You independently and autonomously correspond with your assigned research groups in English, German, and at least one other foreign language (e.g. French, Spanish, Italian)

  • You have successfully completed a three-year professional training as a foreign language secretary or have equivalent skills and experience
  • You have already spent several years in an assistant position, ideally in a research institute or in another scientific institution
  • You like to work independently in a structured manner and you can prioritize the workload
  • You routinely use the common MS Office programs (or similar) in your everyday work
  • Your language skills in English and German correspond to level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and in another foreign language to level B1 (e.g. French, Spanish, Italian)
  • You are open to digital innovations and ideally bring experience in the digitalization of administrative work processes
  • For good cooperation with our diverse staff, a high degree of intercultural openness and competence is required
