The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) in Freiburg, Germany, is an inter­disci­plinary research institution that conducts basic research in two key areas of modern biology: im­mu­nobiology and epigenetics. Central questions address the molecular basis of cell type identities, as they are regulated during immune cell differentiation, metabolic response, and epi­genetic chromatin adaptation.

Technical Assistant (m/f/div), Epigenetics Research Lab

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg has a vacancy for a technical assistant in the department of Dr. Nicola Iovino (ie-freiburg.mpg.de/iovino).

The Nicola Iovino Lab is seeking an experienced technical assistant to support their research on epi­gene­tic events in gamete formation and zygotic epigenome establishment.

The position is initially limited to two years.


Key responsibilities include assisting with research acti­vities, labora­tory duties, and lab organi­zation.

  • Conducting molecular biology experiments involving DNA, RNA, and proteins
  • Maintaining and breeding Droso­phila stocks and perfor­ming crosses and screenings
  • Conducting cell biological experiments using immuno­histo­chemistry on Drosophila embryos
  • Participating in experimental design and execution
  • Ensuring general lab organization and maintenance

  • Completed training as a technical assistant (BTA, MTA) or comparable

Experience in the following areas:

  • Drosophila husbandry (stock maintenance, crosses)
  • Protein Biochemistry
  • Basic molecular techniques (DNA / RNA extractions, PCR)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent English language skills
