Scientist for Beamline P23

PETRA lll, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, currently provides 23 insertion device beam lines for experiments utilising the extreme source brilliance. For the in situ X-ray diffraction and Imaging beamline (P23) we are seeking a scientist to support user operations and strengthen the in situ and operando research programme.


  • Support external and internal user groups during experiments
  • Operate and further develop equipment for in situ and operando research, in particular pulsed laser deposition experiments
  • Support user groups in planning experiments at the beamline
  • Develop and pursue own independent research projects and participate in collaborative projects with external groups, analyse data and publish results

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related fields or equivalent qualification
  • Hands-on experience with X-ray diffraction techniques, preferably using synchrotron radiation
  • Knowledge and practical experience with pulsed laser deposition technology and equipment
  • Good experimental skills and strong interest in instrumentation development
  • Programming skills, especially in Python, will be an asset
  • Excellent English and team working skills
