The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Medical Campus of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. The purpose of the project is the development of innovative therapies and vaccines based on modified peptides for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in humanized experimental mouse models.

The project is led by Prof. Harald Burkhardt and involves the analysis and validation of new approaches to induce regulatory T cells for RA treatment. The project is part of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence in Immune-Mediated Diseases CIMD initiative at the ITMP. It is supported by EUROSTARS, an EU program that promotes international collaboration between innovative SMEs and partners (such as research organizations and universities) in research, development, and innovation projects.


  • Your primary goal is to contribute to the development of new RA vaccines complexed with the human class II molecule DR4
  • Capitalizing on earlier achievements in this project (the generation of new mouse strains with physiological expression of the HLA-DR*0401 molecule), your role will focus on validating the pharmacological effects of vaccine candidates for further drug development
  • This includes analyzing their mechanism of action based on earlier studies in models dependent on the murine MHC2 Aq

  • A PhD in medicine or biological science
