  • We are looking for a motivated and talented person for a PhD position to accelerate the electromagnetic finite element simulation for the design and optimization of electrical machines.
  • During your PhD you will improve and extend the finite element simulation developed by Bosch. This enables full code access at all levels and offers the unique opportunity to carry out optimization measures down to the core of the solver, but also on upstream and downstream components such as preprocessing and postprocessing.
  • You use adaptive approaches and parallelization to pick up on current trends in science and research to apply them in a beneficial way.
  • The acceleration of finite element simulations directly results in faster calculation of e-machine designs and therefore faster product development. At the same time, it is also possible to react more quickly to changing customer requirements.
  • Benefical results of your PhD will be readily transferred to the Bosch Business Units and employed in e-machine product development.

  • Education: excellent university degree (Master or comparable) in Computational Electromagnetics, Numerical Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or comparable
  • Experience and Knowledge: in electromagnetic finite element simulation (preferably on electrical machines); sound knowledge of numerical methods for partial differential equations such as FE method, numerical algorithms for solving non-linear and linear systems as well as time integration methods; practical knowledge of object-oriented programming as well as confident handling of C++ and Python; experience with software development tools (version control with e.g., Git, Visual Studio)
  • Personality and Working Practice: You find it easy to grasp complex issues very fast and achieve your set goals quickly
  • Enthusiasm: for helping to shape the future of electromagnetic simulation of e-machines
  • Languages: fluent in written and spoken English, German is advantage
