Jobbeschreibung
Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies, and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place! For our Institute of Remote Sensing Technology , Department of Atmospheric Processors in Oberpfaffenhofen near München , we are currently looking for a Software / System Engineer for Satellite Based Remote Sensing Data (f/m/x) What to expect: DLR's Remote Sensing Technology Institute plays a leading role in the development of processing systems and scientific algorithms for the calibration and the retrieval of atmospheric data from satellite platforms. For that purpose, we developed GCAPS (the generic calibration and processing system). In the framework of the FDR4ATMOS project from ESA, new algorithms for the harmonization of radiance data from different instruments (starting with GOME and SCIAMACHY, and to be continued for GOME-2) will be developed and implemented into GCAPS. GCAPS will also be used in future greenhouse gas monitoring missions such as the German-French Lidar mission MERLIN. The holder of the position will be responsible for the following tasks: Further development, implementation and improvement of innovative operational scientific retrieval and calibration algorithms in complex processing systems for the harmonization of data from different instruments in the frame of the FDR4ATMOS project and other satellite missions (e.g. MERLIN): Further development and implementation of software systems (especially GCAPS) and their perfective maintenance including the integration in operational ground segments Elaboration of suitable test procedures and provision of test data Conception, preparation and execution of test runs Further development and improvement of novel scientific retrieval algorithms for FDR4ATMOS and calibration and retrieval algorithms for other missions Implementation of the software in pre-operational systems Integration of the retrieval systems in operational ground segments for data processing in near real-time and offline mode Evaluation of existing processing systems and retrieval software from other atmospheric satellite missions Documentation of software, used test procedures, and test results Participation in software acceptance tests Analysis of test data Presentation and publication of results at conferences and/or in scientific journals What we expect from you: University degree (diploma or master) in informatics, computer science, engineering sciences or an equivalent field is required many years of experience with code development in C/C++ is required several years of experience with code development in Python is required practical experience with complex software development and testing under Linux/Unix including necessary tools (for example, git, GCC, CMake, Eclipse) is required good knowledge of the English language is required team spirit and experience in project work is required Desired qualifications: experience with the programming language FORTRAN is a plus good knowledge of numerical mathematics and associated routines and libraries is advantageous What we offer: DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people.
