Group Procurement sets guidelines, rules and policies for procurement at Bauer Media Group and provides respective services to all business areas and units of the group by negotiating contracts, running requests for quotations and providing operative purchasing services as well as supporting all major projects with procurement expertise. Group Procurement consists of teams in Hamburg, Peterborough and Poland.
The Senior Manager Group Procurement will act as a “playing captain” and will lead the team of category experts on a group level. The role will oversee and further develop all category management activities on a group level and ensures strategic alignment of procurement with business goals, drives cost efficiency and savings through strategic sourcing and supplier management.
The aim is to support to standardize and optimize procurement processes across the organization, leveraging economies of scale and mitigating risks associated with supply chain disruptions. This role involves close collaboration with various departments to align procurement strategies with organizational needs and ensures compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. By utilizing data analytics and market intelligence, the Senior Manager fosters innovation and maintains the company's competitive edge in procurement practices.
In addition, this role is in charge of dedicated categories and thereby will “lead by example” and demonstrates the value of professional category management to all stakeholders. Great negotiation, stakeholder and change management skills will help to have success in the role.


  • Lead and manage a team of up to six category experts, fostering their development and ensuring effective execution of strategies.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and formulate and execute category-specific sourcing strategies.
  • Standardize and optimize procurement processes across the organization as well as identify and achieve cost savings through strategic sourcing and negotiations.
  • Consolidate and manage the supplier base for efficiency and reduced complexity.
  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance to ensure quality and timely delivery and provide regular reports and updates to senior management on procurement performance and initiatives.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks and ensure compliance with regulations and ethics.
  • Stay informed on market trends and drive innovation in procurement practices.

  • University degree in Business Administration, Economics or equivalent and 7 years + experience in leading and managing a Procurement Team.
  • Knowledgeable in procurement tools and platforms.
  • Recognized Procurement Management qualificationas well as project Management Qualification.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Outlook and Excel, strong data analytics skills and proven Expertise in SAP, S/4HANA and other procurement tools (e.g. COUPA).
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in English and German

Work experience:

  • Extensive experience working in Procurement, Purchasing, Contract Management and Negotiation.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the market and commercial conditions.
