RIFCON GmbH was founded in 2000 to make a significant contribution to consumer protection, environmental conservation, and nature preservation. Approximately 200 scientists work in the fields of agrosciences, environmental impact and biodiversity assessments. Our team operates from our headquarters in Hirschberg, near the beautiful city of Heidelberg, as well as from our offices in Ludwigshafen or remotely from home.
Our Faunomics team specializes in precise biodiversity assessments and monitoring, utilizing advanced genomic methods to analyze ecosystem and species dynamics.

For our Faunomics team, we are seeking a full-time Research Technician / Laboratory Officer (m/f/d).

The position holder plays a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of our research lab and has the opportunity to collaborate on research projects as part of a team.

Research Technician / Laboratory Officer (m/f/d)


  • General lab management and organization: managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials, ordering supplies and consumables, keeping records and invoices, point of contact for sales and facilities
  • Training new and current lab members in standard laboratory techniques and the use of equipment (DNA extraction, PCR machines, electrophoresis.)
  • Provides technical and experimental support to researchers
  • Conducting experiments (individually or as part of a team) in the area of standard molecular biology (cloning, PCR, etc.). Documentation of protocols and results, presentation of results at group meetings
  • General administration of the laboratory
  • Oversees daily operations, equipment and facilities performance
  • Manage facility supplies, obtaining and verifying quotations, placing orders, keeping records and ensuring the laboratory is well stocked according to the running projects
  • Maintaining lab safety standards, consulting lab members on the safe use of equipment and chemicals based on existing rules
  • Help with organization and scheduling of regular group meetings and other regular appointments in the group
  • Ordering of reagents, lab consumables, devices etc.
  • Monitoring of inventory acquisition (supervision and review of ordering of lab consumables and reagents) and the maintenance of the equipment

  • a completed university degree or technical school / vocational training as a technical assistant in a life science field (e.g. biological-technical assistant) or as a laboratory technician
  • experience in standard molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, electrophoresis, sequencing)
  • experience in working in facilities, including documentation of laboratory work and research data
  • previous experience working in a lab, as a lab research technician or laboratory management experience
  • strong organizational skills and ability to work as part of a team and interact with other lab members in a positive and effective manner
  • ability in handling numerical or financial data and demonstrated attention to detail
  • very good level of written and spoken German and basic level of English
