We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies, and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

For our Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics in Oldenburg we are looking for a

Chemist, Engineer or similar (f/m/x)
Development and characterization of electrocatalysts for the application in proton exchange membrane electrolysis
This position offers the possibility of a doctorate

The Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart, with further research facilities in Cologne, Ulm, Hamburg and Oldenburg, conducts research in the field of efficient and resource-saving energy storage and next-generation energy conversion technologies. The spectrum of work ranges from theoretical studies and fundamental research-oriented laboratory work to the operation of pilot plants. The Electrochemical Energy Technology department also conducts research on new materials for electrochemical storage and converters, among other things.

In the AME group, we are intensively dedicated to the development and characterization of materials for alkaline fuel cells and electrolysers. The focus here is on increasing performance, extending service life and reducing costs. The focus of your research is on:

  • the development of new electrocatalysts for the application in proton exchange membrane electrolysis with the aim of lowering the precious metal content, optimizing the power density and increasing long-term stability
  • the structural and electrochemical characterization of the developed electrocatalysts
  • the publication of your scientific results and their presentation at national and international conferences

In cooperation with a university we give you the opportunity for a PhD thesis.

  • You have a completed, scientific university degree in engineering or natural sciences (e. g. chemistry or material sciences) or similar.
  • You have good knowledge of electrochemistry, materials science and analytics.
  • You are already familiar with structural investigation methods such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and others.
  • An independent way of working, the ability to work in a team, experimental skills and a thirst for knowledge are required.
  • A very good way of expressing yourself in German and English as well as enthusiasm for renewable energies and helping to shape the energy supply of the future are completing your profile.
