Scientist with experience in cloud computing and data management for project EOSC Beyond

The DESY group “Information Technology” (IT) is participating in a variety of high profile national and European projects, evaluating new and innovative IT technologies. One of the key projects we are involved in is “EOSC Beyond”, which aims to enhance the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) by offering advanced scientific services accessible to researchers across Europe. This initiative brings together over 30 prestigious European scientific institutions, universities, and SMEs. The overall goal is to redesign EOSC by setting up a network of nodes providing services, resources and data to researchers in Europe.

  • You will collaborate with several scientific communities to identify services and software which will be offered by the German cloud node within the European Open Science Cloud
  • You will contribute to the overall design and architecture of the German node
  • You will implement solutions to integrate existing or new software into that node
  • You will have the opportunity to participate in regular project meetings, workshops and conferences held in various cities across Europe

  • You have completed a master's degree or PhD in computer science, physics, mathematics or related subjects, or comparable knowledge
  • You are passionate about designing and building infrastructure that enables scientists across Europe to access essential cloud services effortlessly
  • You have knowledge of web technologies such as Rest APIs, OpenID-connect, web frameworks or similar
  • Your experience with cloud infrastructures (e. g. Kubernetes, Openstack, containerisation) is of advantage
  • You are a communicative team player who enjoys working in large international teams and is open to travel
  • Your previous experience in large-scale projects involving geographically dispersed teams will be an asset
  • You have good spoken and written command of the English language
