IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) is an independent, nonprofit research organization. We conduct international and national large-scale comparative studies of educational achievement and other aspects of education, with the aim to research, understand, and improve education worldwide. At IEA Hamburg, over one hundred and fifty employees are involved in managing the different tasks of a study ranging from sampling to data analysis. Our experts also provide a wide array of services related to international and national surveys and assessments.

Research Analyst (f/m/d) Educational Measurement / Psychometrics

to join our Research and Analysis Unit.

The Research and Analysis Unit (RandA) at IEA Hamburg conducts research, analysis, training, support and consultancy activities in the field of large-scale assessments in education. RandA aims at improving the science of large-scale assessments, promoting the proper use of data from IEA studies, and stimulating high quality research related with IEA data.


  • Analyses in the field of educational measurement (e.g., scaling of questionnaire and test data, psychometric analyses of item quality and test consistency based on classic and modern test theory, measurement invariance)
  • Organize and deliver training events on research methods for analyzing large-scale assessment educational data
  • Provide methodological support to colleagues at IEA, as well as to external researchers conducting research that make use of data collected through IEA studies

  • Degree in education, psychology, or statistics, or in a closely related field
  • Experience and expertise with quantitative research methods and their application in statistical software
  • Familiarity and expertise in coding and automatization advantageous (e.g., R, LaTeX)
  • Experience in the field of international comparative and large-scale assessments desirable
  • Testing and/or questionnaire development experience an advantage
  • Project and team work experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English (in a highly multicultural environment)

We expect you to be based in our offices in Hamburg, Germany. The contract will be limited for a period of one year. In principle, there is the possibility of part-time employment.
