Your Challenge
The successful candidate will be inhouse legal counsel for the shipping department of ADM. In this position he/she will counsel on all shipping related matters, contractual, insurance or claims related, especially time charter and voyage charter issues on all levels, from early “ fire fighting” with the Operation managers to full arbitration or court proceedings. Occasionally he/she will also assist in counterparty approval of our potential contract partners on the shipping side and assessment of vessels. Overseeing Additional War Risk insurance matters is also part of the daily work. This is an unlimited and fulltime position.

Within the shipping department Team you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Claims handling of shipping issues and arbitration
  • Legal consultancy and support for Chartering and Operations
  • Technical and financial assessment of potential counterparts (vessels, Owners, Operators)
  • Legal review of charter parties and other shipping related contracts and clauses.
  • Giving advice regarding marine insurance
  • Administrating claims

  • University degree, preferably a law degree, preferably in English law and/or a degree in Nautical Science (or a similar qualification), together with
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of maritime law, charter parties and marine insurance contracts
  • Commercial sense and understanding
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in managing and administering Admiralty, Marine Claims, P&I and/or Cargo matters, preferably gained in former employments as claims manager at P&I clubs, marine insurance broker or shipping company
  • Fluent English, further languages welcome
