The DZNE operates a central IT located in Bonn, which provides the central network, server, and storage infrastructure and services for the entire research institute distributed across ten locations in Germany, supporting the work of scientists and administration. In the IT department we are looking to strengthen the network and security team by recruiting a talented professional in network and cyber security.


  • Maintain, monitor, and manage DZNE's network and communication infrastructure and systems as well as perimeter and internal security systems
  • Provide network security expertise and input in network architecture, design, and engineering projects
  • Responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware, software, devices, and appliances to support the infrastructure
  • Participate in incident response activities that involve immediate network security response
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement complex network changes
  • Solve complex network firewall issues and also be responsible for firewall configuration, management, and troubleshooting
  • Review and approve firewall rule additions and changes
  • Apply network security concepts to traditional data center networks and cloud networks
  • Define network security configuration templates and baselines (routers, switches, firewalls)
  • Define specific network security infrastructure requirements (firewalls, IDS / IPS, NDR, NAC, etc.) to comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor the IT network infrastructure, performing fault analysis, troubleshooting, identifying potential threats and developing appropriate protection measures and strategies for service improvement
  • Keeping up to date and evaluating emerging cyber security threats and ways to mitigate them
  • Define and implement organizational IT security policies, strategies, and standards
  • Able to work in data center environment with, rack mount devices, structured cabling, manage and monitor power and cooling of network devices

  • University degree in computer science, telecommunications, or relevant studies in a related field
  • Four plus years of experience in the networking environment, with a strong emphasis on network security
  • Experience in installation, configuration, management, and upgrading of FortiGate NGFW
  • Experience in installation, configuration, and management of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Professional experience and extensive knowledge especially in the areas of routing and switching, TCP / IP, DNS / DHCP, WLAN, VPN, Cisco components
  • Extensive knowledge of cyber security concepts and technical know-how of installation, configuration, and integration of security network devices and other security hardware and software tools
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting VPN solutions on firewalls
  • Conceptual knowledge of authentication, authorization, and encryption mechanisms (Active Directory, LDAP, RADIUS)
  • Work experience in data center environment, knowledge of data center power and cooling systems
  • High level of responsibility, solution orientation, and collaborative approach
