SOS Children's Villages worldwide is an independent, non-governmental and non-denominational children's rights organization that is active in 138 countries worldwide with almost 3,000 aid programmes. At our head office in Munich and our offices in Berlin and Düsseldorf, more than 150 employees are committed to our vision of “A loving home for every child.”

International Operations manages the funding of our international partner's projects. We work with internal and external bodies to ensure that donations are used appropriately and provide reporting.

We are looking for a Finance Controller for Project Funding (m/f/d) for our Munich or Berlin office. This is a full-time position (38,5 hours per week) available immediately.


  • Together with our programme departments, you will review funding applications from our international partners. You will prepare funding agreements and submit them to our Board for approval. This ensures that donations are used to support effective projects in child and youth care, family strengthening and many other areas.

  • You will prepare the transfer of funds. You will carry out budget, report and audit checks to ensure that our funds are used for their intended purpose and that restricted funds are used appropriately.

  • As part of a major overhaul and digitalisation of our grantmaking, you will explain, introduce and develop new processes with our partners. To this end, you will be involved in internal projects and projects of the SOS Children's Villages Federation.

  • You will assist with our internal monitoring and reporting, such as quarterly forecasts and annual budgeting.

  • You will support our fundraising efforts and annual audit by providing analysis and financial information.


  • A degree in Business Studies or equivalent with a solid professional grounding in numbers and financial processes.

  • Work experience in financial controlling and accounting as well as experience in the not-for-profit sector is an advantage but not a requirement.

  • You are eager to learn, and you are interested in getting to know complex structures.

  • You can work independently and enjoy working in a team. You can distinguish when each type of work is required. You know how to navigate difficult situations and find mutually beneficial solutions.

  • Your very good knowledge of English enables you to understand complex subjects and to express yourself confidently. You also speak and write good German.

  • Your Microsoft Office skills are excellent, especially Excel.

  • Knowledge of digital project management and accounting systems such as SAP is desirable.
