Job Description

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our Management Board we are looking for a

Management Board Officer (f/m/d)


  • Support the Management Board, and in particular the Managing Directors, in determining priorities and strategic items, handle highly confidential information with tact and political savvy
  • Collect and prepare information for meetings and presentations
  • Coordinate meetings, including preparing and distributing meeting documentation, correspondence, agenda, materials and minutes, as well as results and follow-ups
  • Compile various reports, documentations, analyses, presentations and speeches
  • Act as coordinator for collaborations with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide administrative and coordinative support for internal projects and programmes
  • Take part in project-oriented activities, including research and projects with national and international collaboration partners

  • Advanced university degree, preferably in a life-science discipline
  • Experiences in science management, ideally gained in a publicly funded environment, and strong project management competences
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work in a multilingual, multidisciplinary team; English is the working language, knowledge of German is considered an asset
  • Open minded, service-oriented, collaborative and assertive personality
  • A high level of motivation and flexibility, ability to work as part of a team and willingness to travel if needed
