The Max Planck Society is Germany's premier research organization. The 86 Max Planck Institutes conduct research at highest levels, in the service of the general public, in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.

The Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD) is located at the Science Campus Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and investigates artificial quantum states beyond the bulk equilibrium of matter. The atomic and electronic dynamics are engineered by ultrafast light pulses and spatial control over the atomic positions, achieving new functional optical and electronic responses.

We are looking for a

Science Communications Officer


  • Engage the public and communicate our exciting discoveries through a diverse range of outreach activities
  • Develop new and innovative outreach programs to reach a wider community
  • Plan and implement scientific and public events with internal and external participants and organize the visitors program
  • Write, coordinate and edit articles and press releases about MPSD research
  • Support and conceptual development of the website and the management of the social media channels
  • Plan, implement and monitor the internal communications strategy
  • Support communication activities of the Science City Bahrenfeld

  • University degree in Physics, preferentially completed a PhD degree
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific communication, both within the scientific community and to the general public
  • Experience in web management and familiarity with CMS software will be considered as an asset
  • Structured, efficient way of working
  • Communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment and willingness to take responsibility
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills in English and German
