Job Description

At Carbon Minds, we are dedicated to driving innovation and sustainability in the chemical industry. Through transparent life cycle assessments (LCA), we empower our clients to make data-driven decisions, fostering a more sustainable future. Are you ready to join a motivated team that partners with industry leaders to redefine the ecological footprint of the chemical supply chain?

Imagine being part of an agile, purpose-driven team focused on creating impactful data solutions for climate-positive change. At Carbon Minds, we value collaboration, accountability, and integrity. Your ideas will not only be heard but essential to our mission. If you're passionate about frontend development and creating intuitive tools that support sustainable decisions, this could be your opportunity to thrive.

As the Frontend-Focused Full-Stack Developer, you will play a vital role in building a user-friendly platform for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data access and analysis. With a strong focus on frontend development, you'll create intuitive dashboards, interactive visualizations, and interfaces, working closely with team members to ensure data is accessible and actionable. Basic backend knowledge will also be helpful, but deep data engineering or architecture expertise is not required.

Your specific tasks will include:

  • Frontend Development: Lead the frontend efforts, developing user-friendly interfaces, dashboards, and interactive data visualizations using frameworks like React or Vue.
  • Data Visualization: Design and implement customizable dashboards, charts, and maps to display environmental impacts by region and product.
  • Data Access and Search: Build advanced search functionalities (keyword-based, category-based, and metadata filtering) to streamline access to LCA datasets.
  • API Integration: Collaborate with backend team members to connect to APIs for data access, ensuring seamless interaction between frontend and backend.
  • User Management and Security: Implement role-based access controls on the frontend, working with backend colleagues to establish secure authentication.
  • Backend Support: Assist with light backend tasks, such as setting up or connecting APIs as necessary, without delving into data architecture.
  • Custom Alerts and Notifications: Develop automated and user-defined notifications to keep users updated on data changes and regulatory requirements.

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Education: A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, with a focus on software development or user experience.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience as a frontend or full-stack developer with a strong focus on user interfaces.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Frontend: Proficiency in JavaScript frameworks (React or Vue) and familiarity with interactive data visualization tools (e.g., D3.js, Mapbox, PowerBI etc.).
    • Basic Backend Knowledge: Familiarity with Python and web frameworks like Django or Flask; API development skills (RESTful or GraphQL) are beneficial but not central to this role.
    • User Experience: Strong design sensibility to ensure applications are user-centred and aligned with user needs.
    • Data Security: Knowledge of role-based access control and basic data security principles.
    • Compliance: Awareness of EU regulatory standards for LCA tools is a plus.
    • DevOps: Basic understanding of DevOps practices (e.g., Docker, CI/CD pipelines) for streamlined deployments.
  • Mindset and Skills: Analytical thinker, effective communicator, collaborative team player with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Languages: Fluent in English, with German proficiency being a plus.

  • Impact: Directly contribute to solutions that reduce environmental impact in the chemical industry.
  • Flexibility: Enjoy flexible working hours and hybrid work options, based in Cologne or remotely.
  • Growth: Opportunities for rapid learning and skill development in a dynamic and innovative environment.
  • Competitive Salary: An attractive salary structure designed to support long-term growth and development.
  • Team Environment: Join a supportive and motivated team committed to making a difference.
