Working Student | Cloud Engineering | Otto Group data.works (f/m/d)

Otto (GmbH & Co KG)

Job Description
OTTO is one of Europe's most successful e-commerce companies. With more than 10 million items from over 7,000 brands, otto.de is now one of Germany's leading online shopping platforms. As a marketplace, we are constantly operating with brands and partners, so we keep growing. Resting? Not our thing! Not yours either? Then come on board - and shape the future of e-commerce with us.

Diversity belongs to us like the river Elbe belongs to Hamburg: We stand up for openness, respect and tolerance. Let's set sail together - regardless of where you come from, who you love or what you believe in. Because you are unique and that's what we are looking for.

With us, you can contribute ideas and drive projects forward, get involved in networks for your heart's desire and actively shape our corporate culture. Trying something new, think in new ways, be innovative, go above and beyond your own borders - that's our mindset. Let's achieve great things together. Whether you work on campus or at home. Make OTTO your playground.

With a lot of initiative and motivation, you work your way into new technologies and enjoy pushing them to their limits. Do you want to develop the data-driven business of tomorrow with us? Welcome to the Otto Group data.works!

Our tasks include the integration of millions of daily clickstream events and backend data from over 100 Otto Group e-commerce stores as well as the design and operation of efficient data pipelines. The "Cloud Services and Governance" team is responsible for the security of the data collected. Using a security monitoring solution developed in-house, it can identify critical vulnerabilities in a multi-cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, GitHub) in real time.

Many people talk about "home office" - we talk about "hybrid or mobile work": our teams decide together with their manager what balance of mobile working (remote) and on-site presence makes sense for them. We have opted for a joint weekly campus day.

Tech stack:

  • Golang, SQL (PostgreSQL), Google Cloud Platform, Vue & Typescript, Terraform, Kubernetes, GitHub
  • No suitable technology for a problem yet? Then we'll simply develop it ourselves!

  • You will develop solutions with us to advance our IT and especially cloud security and make us even more secure by expanding our set of guidelines.
  • Develop and improve software systems with a special focus on data-driven backend applications, using modern technologies such as Golang, VueJS and cloud-native databases.
  • Last but not least, you will gain a deep insight into the day-to-day business of the Business Intelligence department and the implementation of big data strategies in a large corporation.

Not sure if the position is right for you? - We would be happy to put you in touch with Mahmoud Reza Rahbar Azad from the team.

To get to know you and your skills better, you can expect a coding challenge (Golang) during the application process.

Must-have:

  • You are a registered student in a degree program with a focus on (business) computer science, physics or a comparable subject with a high IT reference and can support us from 01.02.2025 for at least 1 year with 15-18 h per week.
  • You have a good knowledge of programming with Golang or Python and are enthusiastic about new languages such as Open Policy Language (Rego).
  • You have a strong awareness of IT and especially cloud security and always incorporate this into the design of your solutions.
  • You have excellent conceptual skills, a quick grasp of things and enjoy working in a team.
  • Your language level: German B2 (independent use of language) and English B2 (independent use of language)

Nice-to-have:

  • You have initial experience with public cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS or Azure.
  • You have experience in SQL with relational databases e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQLite.
  • You have basic knowledge of frontend development with JavaScript/TypeScript in the Vue Framework and tools such as Terraform
  • You already have experience in Git or GitHub.

  • Flexible working hours (15-18 hours a week) with flexitime account
  • Hybrid working model
  • 30 days vacation per year (based on a 5-day week)
  • Subsidized bike leasing offer and Germany ticket
  • Individual further training offers (e.g. conference visits, individual training, in-house training, etc.)
  • 15% discount on items from the retailer OTTO on otto.de and discounts at other Group companies
  • Further benefits through the corporate benefits program (e.g. discounts for events and travel)
  • Coworking & social spaces, free hot drinks and a wide range of food - including vegan food
