Job Description

Frontier Semiconductor (FSM), offers a range of advanced metrology products and solutions for semiconductor, LED, Solar, FPD, Data Storage and MEMS applications. We have over 25 years experience in stress measurement, film adhesion testing, wafer topography metrology, and electrical characterization. Our latest offerings include unique technology to meet the metrology needs of 3DIC manufacturing and to monitor stress of large flat panels.

Location of Role: Germany -Wildau (Berlin)
Work Model: 4 days Home Office, 1 Day Office
Working Time Model: Full Time or Part Time
Position Summary: Design mechanical aspects of products for concept development, and final production at scale (metrology equipment for semiconductor industry). You work in a growing team, home office is possible. You report directly to the CEO and CTO.


  • Work with multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the USA and Asia
  • Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function
  • Update and customize existing designs, for equipment production
  • Resource materials and components.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Create manufacturing documentation for prototyping and mass production.
  • Attend, and sometimes lead progress meetings and design reviews with peers.
  • Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing physical assistance when required

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, mechanical preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Solidworks.
  • Good knowledge and experience designing for machined parts, sheet metal parts and assemblies.
  • General shop skills to accomplish the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
  • Ability to liaison with manufacturers and fabricators for prototype and production parts.
  • Knowledge of part numbering and revisioning standards and best practices.
  • Fluent in English and German language for cooperation with the international team and local suppliers

Nice to Have:

  • Good knowledge and experience with optical components, clean room requirements and anti-vibration protection
  • 5+ years of work experience in product development
  • Work experience in semiconductor industry and with wafer handling
  • Experience transitioning from prototypes to volume manufacturing.
  • Ability to prepare and present slide shows for design reviews, weekly meeting, client presentations, etc.
  • Knowledge of tolerance definition and description on manufacturing drawings.
  • Machine shop skills (lathe, mill, etc.)
  • Graduate degree in engineering
