Job Description
The Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) is a competence center of the Max Planck Society. It is engaged in the development and optimization of algorithms and applications for high-performance computing as well as in the design and implementation of solutions for data-intensive projects in close collaboration with scientists of the Max Planck Institutes. The MPCDF operates Max Planck supercomputers, computing systems, a cloud platform, and data repositories for various Max Planck institutes and maintains an up-to-date infrastructure for data management including long-term archival as one of the largest such academic sites within Europe.

Linux System Administrator (m/f/div)

The MPCDF infrastructure comprises a wide range of data-driven services. For ongoing maintenance as well as further developments and improvements, the MPCDF is searching for a qualified candidate to join the data division (m/f/div). The chosen candidate will take a leading role in maintaining and further developing the MPCDF data services.
The applicant should ideally hold a degree in an IT-related area and should be familiar with modern DevOps procedures as well as the operation of data-driven (web) services.
- Good knowledge of Linux system administration
- Programming and scripting experience (Python, Bash)
- Creativity for problem solving under changing conditions
- Ability to realize concrete solutions
- Good communication skills (in English and German)
Beneficial skills:
- Experience in the administration of self-hosted GitLab instances or similar web-based services
- Familiarity with automation (Ansible or similar technologies) and virtualization techniques (VMWare, Proxmox)
- Interest in science and research
The full-time position starts as soon as possible and is initially limited for a period of up to two years, with the possibility of extending this to a permanent position. Salary will be based on experience according to the German TVöD.
