Energynautics is a dynamic company specializing in grid integration of renewable energy and innovative sustainable energy concepts such as smart grids. At the interface of industry and research, we provide consulting services to a wide range of clients such as grid operators, manufacturers of components for renewable energy systems and government agencies, associations and non-governmental organizations. We also organize annual international conferences in the field of grid integration of renewable energies and electromobility.

Our team is growing and we are looking for reinforcement to our Energy Economics and Regulation capabilities in our Darmstadt office.

About the role

To further grow our services in the area of energy economics and regulation, we are looking for an energy economics and regulation consultant to join our team located in Darmstadt. This role puts you at the forefront of the global energy transition and market integration of renewables. You will join the consultancy team developing market design and analytics, market codes and regulation, tariff design, energy policy, sector restructuring, investment appraisal, and business-case and economic models. The team works with systems across the globe with different market structures and liberalization levels.


Your role and responsibilities

  • Working closely with our modelling team to structure economic problems into quantifiable analyses and derive insights from the model results
  • Building and developing deep knowledge and expertise in energy market economics, drivers of business cases and energy transition topics
  • Developing reports and studies on electricity markets and systems, and investment cases
  • Developing recommendations and drafts for legislations and regulations of different aspects of the power system, specifically markets (e.g. market codes, tariff design, cross-border market design)
  • Contributing to the product and business development of the company by identifying new project opportunities and expanding our capabilities

Your profile

  • Master's degree or PhD with a major in Economics, Business Administration, Business Engineering, with a specialization in energy economics and/or regulatory economics.
  • +2-years of work experience in the energy sector
  • Experience in (leading) projects that require a strong focus on qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Experience in managing all phases of the project life cycle, autonomous planning and execution skills
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management in multinational environments and an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Knowledge on the organization, operation and functioning of the wholesales markets, liberalization processes and market regulation
  • Prior experience in fundamental energy market modelling
  • Cross-sector long term energy planning experience is an advantage
  • Experience with energy system optimization software, such as Plexos/Antares/OPTGEN
  • Knowledge of flow-based market coupling regulations is a plus
  • Data analytics skills in Python, R or Excel VBA
  • Ability to independently use data analytics for policy and regulation drafting as well as ability to prepare and publish technical, policy and research reports and studies on topic related to electricity system and markets.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and logical way
  • Mother-tongue or C2 level English competency
  • Spanish/French/German knowledge is a big plus
  • Availability for international and oversee travel
