Médecins du Monde Luxembourg (MdM) is an organization that provides healthcare to the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in Luxembourg and takes part in international emergency missions. As an international solidarity organization, Médecins du Monde advocates for better access to healthcare, denounces violations of human rights and human dignity, and works towards sustainable improvements in health policies for all.


In collaboration with and under the authority of the Medical Responsible and the healthcare Program Director, the Medical Coordinator is responsible for conducting consultations as part of general medical care services organized at Abrigado* in Luxembourg. This includes overseeing the low-threshold substitution program (SBS) and establishing a network of partnerships with other healthcare providers.

*Abrigado (CNDS) is a reception, care, and emergency accommodation center for individuals with substance use disorders. It also includes a supervised consumption room.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

In collaboration with the teams of the CNDS (National Committee for Social Defense) and the Medical Responsible

Operational Aspect

  • Ensures the alignment of programs with the association's strategy;
  • Participates in meetings of the ABRIGADO medical service;
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with prescribing physicians for substitution therapies and the addiction support network;
  • Maintains and fosters relationships with hospital services.

Primary Care Activities

  • Oversees the medical follow-up of patients, manages their medical records, and handles medical emergencies within their competencies;
  • Ensures the follow-up of the low-threshold substitution program and contributes to its evaluation/development in collaboration with the head of the nursing service at Abrigado;
  • Drafts medical reports to assist the social service in advancing their procedures.

Prevention Aspect

  • Raises awareness among external healthcare providers about the issues and profiles of patients suffering from addiction;
  • Collaborates with the National Infectious Diseases Service for the prevention, screening, follow-up, and treatment of Hepatitis C, HIV, and other diseases managed by this service (Syphilis, Hepatitis B, etc.);
  • Contributes to the development of intervention strategies: understanding health policies and providing medical technical input.

  • Medical degree with authorization to practice as a general practitioner in Luxembourg, including prior approval* for the substitution treatment program for drug addiction.
  • A specialization or experience in addiction medicine is an advantage.
  • Experience in healthcare and access to medical care is a plus.
  • Experience in a similar role or within an NGO.
  • Knowledge of the Luxembourgish social network is an asset.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken French; knowledge of German and Luxembourgish is highly preferred, and proficiency in other languages is appreciated.
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
