The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) is the largest Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Germany with approximately 400 employees. It is the National Reference Centre for Tropical Pathogens, a WHO Collaborating Centre and member of the Leibniz Research Association.

Postdoc (m/f/d)

The position is initially limited to two years and is remunerated in accordance with the German salary scheme for the public service (TV-AVH Hamburg).


  • biomarker analysis of Lassa Fever patient samples from observational clinical trials and Phase II interventional trials (ELISA, Luminex-based assays)
  • support of immunological analysis of patient PBMCs (transcriptomics, flow cytometry, ELISpot, RT-PCR)

  • PhD in natural sciences (biology, biochemistry or equivalent) or equivalent work experience
  • profound theoretical and practical experiences in immunology (flow cytometry, ELISA)
  • extensive theoretical and practical experience with transcriptomics and analyses
  • substantial experiences in molecular biology
  • willingness to work under conditions of safety levels 3 and 4
  • aptitude and a successful security clearance (Ü2) according to §1a HmbSÜGG for work in high-containment laboratories
  • willingness to conduct RNA sequencing and biomarker analysis for different research projects
  • independent and careful work
  • excellent organizational skills and capacity to prioritize
  • excellent communication skills in English, in oral and written form
