  • Post Date: 6. September 2024
Job Description

To drive the future of e-commerce at the Otto Group headquarters in Hamburg, and to experience the innovative power of our Group. In the teams of the Otto Group functional areas, we successfully manage 123 national and international individual companies and develop the strategy of the Otto Group on a daily basis. Does that sound exciting? Then let's get started together.

At Otto Group data.works, we are passionate about innovation and pushing technological boundaries. Our department, consisting of around 35 tech enthusiasts, develops data and AI products for various Otto Group companies. These products include chatbots, sales forecasting models, and image generation solutions. We use both traditional machine learning methods (such as NLP, clustering, regression, and classification) and the latest advancements in generative AI (like Large Language Models and text-to-image).

Our small, agile teams consist of a Product Manager, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Engineers. Together, we achieve rapid and impactful results. We own the entire product lifecycle—from initial research and experimentation to development and operation in production. Each team member takes ownership of the team's products.

At data.works, we value curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Therefore, we organize regular hacking and innovation days to learn new technologies together. In our internal meetups, we exchange the latest data and AI trends and best practices to stay at the forefront of progress. Additionally, we frequently contribute to the open-source community and have published several packages, including skorch and bquest.

Our data pool integrates millions of daily clickstream events and backend data from over 50 Otto Group e-commerce shops. This robust foundation enables us to build impressive data products quickly.

Many people talk about "home office" - we talk about "hybrid or mobile work": Our teams decide together with their team lead what balance of mobile work (remote) and on-site presence makes sense for them. Typically, the product teams meet in the office 1-2 times a week.

You are welcome to work for us part-time (30 h/week).

Tech stack:

  • Google Cloud Platform | Amazon Web Services
  • SQL | Docker | GitHub | Terraform
  • Python: Sklearn | Pytorch | Pandas

  • From Ideas to Action: Translate ideas into prototypes and then into production using MLOps best practices. This role extends beyond just modeling in Jupyter notebooks. You will also be responsible for deploying data science solutions, maintaining them, and further developing our solutions.
  • Unleash Your Innovative Spirit: Dive into new technologies in your daily tasks, dedicated hacking days, or sprints. We encourage a culture of active exploration, seeking and applying the latest advancements to improve existing products and create new ones.
  • Own Your Impact: Take full ownership of features and products from inception to deployment. Your contributions will directly shape the success and evolution of our solutions.
  • Team-Driven Development: Influence our products and foster a collaborative culture through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Continuously update your skills and knowledge with the latest industry trends and technologies.

You are not sure whether the job suits you? - We will be happy to put you in touch with a Theresa Wohlsen from the department. Would you like to experience your future team and your workplace live? - You will have the opportunity to do so at a later date as part of your application process.
