We are looking for a
Science Laboratory Assistant Technician (m/f/d)
Full-time (35 hours per week)
YOUR ROLE
You work with the Technician to ensure the smooth daily running and maintenance of the 8 laboratory spaces and associated storage and preparation areas.
Preparation of practical materials
- Prepare materials for use in classroom practical activities
- Liaise with teachers on how they wish to use the practical materials to ensure appropriate delivery
- Deliver materials to lessons, setting up / assembling equipment where required
- Remove practical materials at the end of a lesson
- Maintain and communicate safety standards
- Ensure the organization of equipment and stocks in laboratory spaces and preparation rooms
- Removal of dirty glassware from laboratory spaces
- Wash dirty glassware and return it to the laboratory spaces
- Take care of equipment by making small repairs
- Advise Technician of breakages and deficiencies of equipment in laboratory spaces
Maintenance of resources
Management of resources
- Receive materials and goods from the janitor
- Communicate any physical plant damages to the janitor team
- Ensure that the laboratory work benches and sinks are kept clean
- Make short trips off campus to purchase sundry items
- Ensure that any deficiencies in the cleaning performed by subcontractors is notified to the Business manager
Preparation of chemical and biological materials
- Prepare and dispose of chemical solutions and substances
- Prepare and clear away biological materials including low-level bio-hazardous materials
- General laboratory technical skills and technical knowledge of science
- Proficiency in the safe use and disposal of chemicals or an appropriate vocational qualification
- Capability to create and operate systems relating to laboratory organisation, including keeping appropriate (written) and computer records
- Capacity to respond technically to changes in teaching methods and course content
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
- Fluency in German (B2 standard) and English (B1 standard) to work in accordance with German safety regulations
