Research Support Specialist (m/f/div)

Salary is based on TVöD according to individual qualifications and responsibilities.

We are seeking a highly motivated research support specialist with prior experience in flow cytometry. The successful candidate will support all aspects of our core operation in cell sorting and analytical flow cytometry and enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary environment. You will contribute to the smooth and seamless operation of the facility, equipment operation and maintenance, hands-on user training, as well as basic data interpretation. The position also offers a great opportunity to learn about cutting-edge flow cytometry applications as well as other “omics” technologies used in cross-platform workflows together with our other core facilities.


  • Daily operation and maintenance of two high-throughput cell sorters (BD FACSAria Fusion and BD FACSAria II) and two cell analyzers (BD Accuri and BD FACSCelesta) for cell sorting and multiparameter analysis
  • Train users in cell sorting and data analysis; assist investigators with experimental design, data display, and data analysis
  • Troubleshoot technical problems of instruments and sample preparation
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of flow cytometry and cell sorting services, including establishing new flow cytometry methodologies and reviewing operating workflows
  • Optional: statistical analysis of FACS data – dependent on the level of prior experience / training

  • You have a relevant three-year technical vocational training, or a university degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in a in a relevant technical course of study, or equivalent skills and knowledge.
  • The qualified applicant must have 2+ years of experience in biological research and significant experience working with flow cytometry technology.
  • Previous experience in cell sorting by FACS, a background in genomics / molecular biology, and familiarity with model organisms are a plus.
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Good language skills in German are a plus.
  • Applicants must show a high level of self-motivation, be able to work independently and as part of a team, have troubleshooting skills, pay attention to detail, and have a service-oriented and collaborative mindset.
