The Division "Policy and Implementation Research for Cancer Prevention" at the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at University Medicine Center Mannheim is seeking a Foreign Language Secretary in part-time (50%).

The DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at the University Medicine Mannheim (UMM) was established in 2019 in the frame of a partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, the University Medical Center Mannheim, and the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University with generous support from the Hector Foundation II (https://hector.dkfz.de/index.html). The aim is to carry out excellent translational cancer research in the fields of precision oncology, cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship.

The Division "Policy and Implementation Research for Cancer Prevention" is a newly established division at the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute. Our mission is to bride the gap between evidence and policy / practice in the area of cancer prevention.


We are seeking a highly organized foreign language secretary to support the division. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support in German and English. This role is crucial in helping the division achieve its research and organizational goals. Specifically tasks include:

  • Administrative support for the division (appointments, telephone correspondence, mail processing, etc.)
  • Planning and organization of business trips
  • Support in personnel management tasks
  • Material order via our electronic ordering system
  • Translation of documents, reports, and communications between German and English
  • Participation in the control of basic equipment and third-party fund accounts
  • Support in the preparation of German and English language research proposals combined with the corresponding reporting system
  • Coordination of project processes with internal and external project and cooperation partners
  • Assist in planning and organizing division meetings, events, and workshops

  • Completed vocational training (office communication clerk, foreign language secretary or comparable)
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to details
  • Professional experience in the secretarial / assistance area in the academia or medical field is desirable
