We are looking for a highly qualified scientist in the field of industrial robotics. You will work on the fascinating boundary of research, development, and business relevant applications within an international and interdisciplinary team of highly motivated scientists.

  • In this role, you will conduct applied research in control & programming of industrial robot systems (stationary and/or mobile) in dynamic environments.
  • You will initiate, participate in, and lead corresponding research projects.
  • You show problem-solving skills and creativity throughout the complete research & prototyping process, from the formulation of a proposal to the handover of results.
  • You will collaborate with other teams in ABB Research as well as with ABB's international divisions, academia, external associations, and further open-innovation partners.
  • You help to protect innovations by means of property rights, publish results in academic papers and present research topics at renowned conferences and trade fairs.
  • In addition, you will be part of shaping our research strategy.

  • Ph.D. degree (or excellent master's degree) with experience in robotics and control engineering
  • In-depth expertise in control, modeling & programming (Python, C/C++) of robotic systems as well as machine learning/applied artificial intelligence
  • Experience in project management will be considered a clear plus
  • Hands-on expertise in designing and commissioning of test rigs as well as performing robot experiments
  • Cross-cultural communication and networking skills; team-player mentality
  • Fluent English skills (both spoken and written) are mandatory; German language skills are beneficial, but not a prerequisite
