In the role you are responsible for leading a business focused on Venture Capital-backed companies across all sub sectors of Technology and Innovation. The Head of Innovation Banking is responsible for executing on HSBC Innovation Banking's strategy, identifying and targeting growth markets, working with internal and external stakeholders to build HSBC Innovation Banking's brand and product solutions for high-growth companies.

The Head in this role should convey the entire platform of HSBC Innovation Banking services in the target market, be the conduit for Tech and Innovation companies and founders into the HSBC global network and work closely with the Innovation Banking Credit underwriting teams to structure complex debt opportunities. This individual will convey the bank's strategic areas of focus to investors and founders in the market as well as educating internal stakeholders on growth-orientated sub-sectors.

The Head of Innovation Banking will drive new business origination through building deep relationships with the Venture Capital, Innovation and advisory community and ensure the growth of the HSBC Innovation Banking brand in market. This will include representing us in press and PR activity, at conferences and ecosystem events. In this function the role holder will report to the Head of Innovation Banking Europe.

  • Responsible for the leadership of the Innovation Banking Team in Germany & Austria (coverage & acquisition of clients and employees, leadership and development of three team members)
  • Work alongside internal teams to deliver a high client-focused strategy while meeting both quantitative P&L targets and qualitative goals.
  • Represent HSBC Innovation Banking in market to grow the bank's brand in local and international markets a. This involves speaking at conferences and events, media coverage, interviews, podcasts, and publishing thought leadership content.
  • Manage and grow an existing portfolio of banking and debt clients, monitoring their performance and needs, working in collaboration with colleagues across Credit, Debt Execution and Investor Coverage teams.
  • Pro-actively identify and deliver cross-sell opportunities to deepen relationships with HSBC Innovation Banking clients. Originate and evaluate prospective businesses and work with product partners to structure suitable solutions to help our clients scale and be successful.
  • Approach role with a collaborative and entrepreneurial attitude, act with integrity, empathy and respect, and support and mentor other team members.
  • Take a risk-based approach to vet, originate and manage the client portfolio at all times ensuring bank compliance requirements are met.

  • Extensive related financial services experience with advanced knowledge of a financial institution's operations and products.
  • Experience of operating in the Technology and Innovation space, with an existing network of VCs and high growth companies.
  • Validated ability to build meaningful and strategic relationships and external networks to drive business growth.
  • Experience in selling and strategically positioning a wide range of banking products and the ability to identify and oversee debt transactions with high growth, venture-backed companies.
  • In-depth credit skills, preferably with experience in financing venture capital owned companies or early-stage companies
  • Expertise in risk assessment and managing deteriorating accounts pro-actively.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a high level of emotional intelligence and clear ability to communicate effectively across senior stakeholders and other parts of the business, setting a clear vision and goals for the wider team.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English. German language skills are not mandatory, but preferable
