Daimler Truck AG

Job Description
At Daimler Truck we want to make a change, to create real impact together. That is why we take responsibility around the globe and work as one global team towards our vision: Leading Sustainable Transportation. It's people who make the difference and drive success. Together, we will achieve a more sustainable transportation, reduce our carbon footprint, increase safety on and off the track, develop smarter technology and financial solutions. All essential, to fulfill our purpose for all who keep the world moving.

YOU MAKE US – YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

In the TT/S15 department we research and develop the next generation of Electric/Electronic architectures (“E/E” for short) at Daimler Truck. The focus of our activities is the change from component-oriented to software-defined and service-oriented E/E architecture. New customer requests and autonomous driving should be supported through a future-proof E/E architecture. These customer solutions must be available with fast time-to-market requirements.

To methodically support the development of such a software-defined E/E architecture, Daimler Truck follows model-based development with Systems Engineering aspects (MBSE). The conversion of the entire development process to model-based development with the introduction of Systems Engineering is a major challenge that our department addresses by defining methods, roles and working packages. The creation of models on different abstraction levels (logical, system and hardware architecture) as well as the definition of the interfaces between the levels is essential for the successful establishment of MBSE in our company. It is therefore important to analyze and integrate the different abstraction levels of models into our Systems Engineering approach to be able to use all the advantages of dynamic interfaces in a model landscape.

Be a part of the innovation at Daimler Truck and work on exciting topics of the future through your thesis!

These challenges await you:

  • Review the state of the art
  • Get familiar with the world of Electric/Electronic architectures at Daimler Truck
  • Get familiar with existing Systems Engineering development methods at Daimler Truck
  • Develop a concept for the introduction of feature and system models on different abstraction levels including interfaces between the levels for our Systems Engineering use case
  • Work out arguments for the need to introduce feature and system models
  • Prototypical implementation of the concept in a model-based tool with productive data
  • Documentation and presentation of your results

The final topic selection is made in consultation with the university, you and us. Options for supervision are available at the “Mobility and Technology” chair at Hochschule Esslingen.

  • Scientific studies of some sort (Electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable)
  • Solid knowledge of spoken and written English, ideally also German
  • Confident use of MS Office
  • Commitment and ability to work in a team
  • Analytical mindset and a strategic way of working
