Job Description

Canada's official representation in Germany includes the Embassy of Canada in Berlin, as well as consulates in Düsseldorf and Munich. Members of the team work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary and international environment. The role of the three offices and their more than 100 Canada based and locally engaged staff is to develop the relationship between Canada and Germany across a number of areas.

Canada's Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is part of Global Affairs Canada and its worldwide network of diplomatic offices. The mandate of the TCS is to advance Canadian commercial and economic interests abroad. This position contributes to the delivery of the international business development program at the Consulate of Canada in Düsseldorf.

The Consulate of Canada in Düsseldorf is seeking a:

Trade Program Assistant (m/f/d)


Under the direct supervision of the Vice-Consul and Trade Commissioner at the Consulate of Canada in Düsseldorf, the Trade Program Assistant provides support for trade program activities, including assisting in responding to service requests from Canadian exporters interested in Germany, researching and identifying commercial opportunities for Canadian companies in Germany, and assisting with the organization and implementation of trade initiatives.

Responsibilities of the position also include performing research and creating information, presentation and briefing documentation; performing financial administration tasks for the mission's trade program, providing updates and projections on a regular basis; supporting with social media communications; and other duties as required.


Essential qualifications include a completed post-secondary degree (e.g Bachelor's degree) or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience (e.g. high-school diploma and a mix of training and experience, such as a German Ausbildung). The ideal candidate has an advanced level (written and oral) of German and English (approximately C1 equivalent). In addition, the ideal candidate has at least one (1) year of recent professional experience, for example but not limited to, working in an office environment, providing client service including by drafting of email responses and participating in meetings or phone calls (also virtual), undertaking research and analysis and presenting key findings (written and oral), supporting a team with logistical planning and implementation of initiatives or events, and using social media in a professional capacity, e.g.LinkedIn and/or Twitter.


The position is full time (37.5 hours per week) and indeterminate. The minimum salary is EUR 48,801 gross per annum. As per current terms and conditions which are periodically reviewed, additional benefits include a yearly bonus of 13th month's salary and a bonus of a 14th half month's salary, 30 days of annual leave, and a performance based annual salary increase.
