We develop #HeyMercedes at the R&D (Research & Development) headquarters in Sindelfingen together with our hubs in Silicon Valley, Berlin, Sofia and Beijing. In doing so, we design probably the most direct, emotional interface between our customers and the Mercedes-Benz brand.


In the Speech Software Module team, we take the End-to-End responsibility of the in-car software for the #HeyMercedes voice assistant. This begins with evaluating new technologies, customer insights and designing a technical solution together with our interface-teams. Of course we are also implementing and launching them to our customers.

You role will revolve around supporting the System Architects in strategic and long-term technological decisions. In particular, this means:

  • Intent Classification and slot filling
  • Acoustic Emotion Detection
  • LLM based Dialog-Management and Grounding

In addition we want you to push the in-house open source strategy forward.

These challenges are waiting to be worked on by you:

  • Supporting strategic technology decisions by creating proof of concepts in regards to open source LLMs for our embedded in-vehicle computer
  • Devise strategy for dialog-management / dialog-design in regards to the grounding of LLMs
  • Support the benchmark of embedded NPUs in combination with our in-house developed software solution
  • Writing white papers and patents regarding the insights generated from PoCs and benchmarks in regards to TTS, NLP, Emotion Classification
  • Researching state of the art and preparing documents for decision making
  • Create non-disclosed fine tuning database and devise strategy of data collection together with our offices around the world

  • Course of study Computer Linguistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning or comparable
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Proficient English, German is beneficial, any other language of the 27 we support is a plus as well
  • Self-motivated to work on cutting edge technology
  • Eager to learn new subjects from scratch
  • Passion for automotive
  • Advanced skills Python (we will check in the interview), knowledge of C++ and/or Golang is beneficial
  • Experience with Chatbots is beneficial
  • Basic Knowledge of Tensorflow2, Pytorch
  • Basic Knowledge in Docker and CMake
