The International Mathematical Union (IMU) is an international non-governmental and non-profit scientific organization, with the purpose of promoting international cooperation in mathematics. As part of its mission, the IMU supports and assists the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), which takes place every four years. This includes support for the publication and preservation of the congress proceedings.

The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises seven non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes belong to the Leibniz Association.

For the IMU Secretariat we are seeking a

Student Assistant (f/m/d)

 (Ref. 24/07)

starting as soon as possible.

We are looking for: a Student Assistant to support the IMU Archive in various aspects relating to the archiving and digital publication of ICM proceedings. In particular, the IMU Archive intends to undertake a project that will see all articles from ICM proceedings assigned a digital object identifier (DOI). The Student Assistant will provide support to this project as directed by the IMU Archivist.

The main duties will include:

  • ICM Proceedings: provision of support to the DOI project
  • ICM Proceedings 2014-2022: collection, processing and digital storage of articles
  • ICM Proceedings copyright: collate documents; overview of permissions and related legal issues
  • search for ICM materials from external sources (e.g. at archives, local organizers, individuals, etc.)
  • source and enter ICM images on the picture database
  • digitization of general ICM and other files for the IMU Archive (OCR scan)

The working hours are 10 hours per week. The position is limited to 12 months and is remunerated at Euro 13.00 per hour.
